Business in a Box Fund

Business in a Box Program
We launched the Business in a Box program as a way to create jobs and to help people make more money. We equip local Village Entrepreneurs with a set of ToughStuff products and the training and skills to rent and sell those products and create a business. The average ToughStuff village entrepreneur profits $597 - $744 in a year.

Village Entrepreneurs need help getting started
Each BIAB costs $200. Many poor people in Madagascar make less than that in a year. And very few have enough savings to invest in starting a business. However, we’ve found that once a VE has their first products, they earn enough to reinvest and grow their business indefinitely.

Help ToughStuff loan an entrepreneur their first kit
ToughStuff loans the first kit of solar products to an entrepreneur. When the products are rented or sold, that entrepreneur pays ToughStuff back and uses the profits to reinvest in new products for the business. That one loan will then be used again and again to give village entrepreneurs their chance to lift their family out of poverty.

Each Village entrepreneur:
• Generates $660 in income for his family each year
• Improves the lives of 100 households and 600 people each year
• Saves consumers an estimated $9800 each year
• Replaces the burning of 720 litres of kerosene each year
• Prevents the emissions of 2.0 tonnes of C02 each year
• Stops 9,600 batteries from being unsafely disposed of each year
